Well, despite the 90 degree temperature and the brief rain showers, this year’s picnic was a very good one with several hundred people attending! This year’s winners of the 14th Annual Metra Picnic Bush Olympic Games was won by MENJO’S COMPLEX Team #1. Hoorah!
And again for the fourth consecutive year the “Spirit of the Picnic Award” for the TOP ticket seller goes to SEEKER’S of Port Huron. So, congrats to you hardcore & rowdy, party animals! I hope everyone has recovered.
Now let’s find out where all the real hot parties are in Metraland, starting with our sister city, Chicago.
ILLINOIS
At BERLIN (Chicago, 773-348-4975), Stardust and Ratcatchers present “CULT” Thursday, July 29th with Pictureplane, Teen-girl Fantasy, Teen Witch, & Baby Bamboo. On Sunday, August 1st. it’s “MadonnaRama” with DJ Riley York. Then on Friday, August 13th (hubris productions) presents a first “ANNEE POCALYPSE”, I can’t wait to find out what that’s about! Hum!

2nd STORY BAR (312-923-9536), it’s an experience of a lifetime, cheap strong drinks, interesting people from all walks of life, and caught in a time-warp, some say a black hole, just kidding. I always spend several hours there when I’m in town. I love the joint!
TOUCHE (773-465-7400), on Friday, July 30th its guest club night with the “Brotherhood of the Phoenix” come join this neo-pagan order for Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender men who love men, for a fun night with raffles and demos! Then on Friday, August 6th its M.A.F.I.A. Club Night come meet the men of MAFIA, Chicago’s fisting club, there will be tons of raffle prizes.
Then on Saturday, August 7th its “GREAT LAKES BEARS Night” Chicago’s original, biggest, badass bear’s party in town. Hundreds of hot hairy men take over the bar. There will also be a Big “PIZZA PANIC” at midnight with guest DJ Hale and NO COVER!
MICHIGAN
It’s time once again for the 14th Annual FERNDALE PUB CRAWL on Friday, July 30th with over 2,000 expected for this annual fundraiser. This is a seven hour walking tour of restaurants, nightclubs, and pubs in the city center of downtown Ferndale featuring twenty two venues. The event will raise money for four local charities. Last year $20,000 in proceeds was raised for the Michigan AIDS Coalition, FernCare Free Clinic, Ferndale Community Foundation, and the Ferndale Auxiliary Police. On Friday, July 30th any Ferndale Pub Crawlers with badges, if you present your badge at Menjo’s Complex there is NO COVER for you! Come out and support this worthy cause and have a few laughs, and a few libations you will enjoy yourself!
HAYLOFT SALOON (313-581-8913), has a big surprise for ya, a “MOTOWN TOGA PARTY” with optional underwear, (my suggestion!), on Saturday, July 31st. So, grab your togas and bring your balls to “hangout” with the bowlers from the Motown Invitational Classic. Also remember they have “Happy Hour from 3-9pm everyday, with the lowest prices in town, all domestic beer is $1.75 and all import beer is $2.00. Bud Light draft beer is only $2.50 for a 32 oz pitcher, and Bud light draft beer 60 oz pitcher is $5.00 and all well liquor is $2.00. Yes, the place was packed with party people and the new CO2 foggers cooled every one down, but the dancing never stopped! Remember, you can dance till 4 AM legally every Saturday at ICE, so party-on dudes & dudettes!
COMO’S (Ferndale 248-548-5005), now has the REEFERMEN appearing on the Patio at 9pm every Wednesday. Also enjoy wings from 9pm to midnight every Monday in the bar area with the purchase of a beverage. You can choose your sauces and the very from Nuclear, Hot, Mild, Bourbon, Teriyaki or BBQ this an in-house type deal. NO TAKE OUT, NO DOGGIE BAGS, NO TO GO!
CLUB 9 (248-582-7227), the hottest weekly night dance party, “HUMP Night Wednesdays” is about to get even hotter! The August scheduled planned events are as followed, on August 4th it’s a “Patio Foam Party”, on August 11th it will be “JUST DANCE”, then on August 18th it’s an “80’s Theme Party”, on August 25th it’s their “JUNGLE SAFARI Party”!
Also at Club 9 they have “KARAOKE Tuesdays” with Artist Roulette each and every Tuesday Night from 10pm until 2am on the Patio with host & emcee Promo Pete with CASH prizes every week and great drink specials. DUNES RESORT (Douglas 269-857-1401), is the biggest GAY resort in the Midwest and its really fun too! Coming up for Thursday, August 5th through Sunday, August 8th it’s “MARDI GRAS” with DJ Mark Vallese spinning your favorite dance tunes. In the Cabaret will be Anthony Micheletti, Jackie Beat and the Dunes Follies also the Rubi Girls. There will also be KARAOKE and the Men of Manwatch.
The following weekend August 12th through the 15th its “PORK” with a COLT Studio event and appearing will be either Gage Weston or Nate Karlton or both, if you like “man ass” checkout these hunks! Spinning is DJ Mark Vallese and in the cabaret will be AMY & FREDDY and the Dunes Follies. There will be Karaoke, Men of Manwatch and SUNDAY TEA with the Men of Manwatch!
